Kathleen Rawson has been the CEO of Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. for over 17 years. Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. is a private/non-profit company contracted with the City of Santa Monica to manage Downtown Santa Monica, including the world-famous Third Street Promenade. During this time, Ms. Rawson has managed a budget of roughly $6 million annually and balanced a variety of competing interests in a challenging political environment to build one of the largest and most effective downtown organizations in the West. Each year, Downtown Santa Monica hosts 12 million visitors, produces nearly half a billion dollars in annual sales receipts and generates over $10 million in sales tax revenue for the City of Santa Monica.
Ms. Rawson has been an active member in the International Downtown Association for over a decade and currently is serving on the Board of Directors. In addition, she volunteers on the Board of Kehillat Israel. She has served on the Board of Directors for Turning Point Transitional Housing Shelter, Santa Monica AIDS Project and Southern California Women for Understanding. Ms. Rawson has a degree in graphic design and advertising from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. She resides on the Westside and has two children.
